Personalized Healing for Your Well-Being
ZenRN is a holistic nursing practice that integrates Eastern and Western medical methods. Sessa Schultz, RN, BSN, emphasizes personalized healing strategies, providing a distinctive combination of Reiki, nervous system support, and mindful self-care mentoring tailored to each client.
How Trauma and Stress Attach to the Body
Trauma isn’t just emotional—it’s physical. When we experience stress, grief, fear, or overwhelm, the body reacts through the nervous system. If the experience isn’t fully processed, that stress can get “stuck” in the body, especially in the fascia—the connective tissue that wraps around muscles, nerves, and organs.
Fascia is sensitive to emotional and physical tension. It can become tight or restricted, holding onto patterns of pain, stress, or trauma long after the event has passed. This is one of the ways the body “remembers” what the mind has tried to forget.
What Happens When Stress Is Stored in the Body?
When the nervous system is constantly in fight, flight, or freeze mode, or exposed to chronic stress, it can cause a wide range of symptoms:
-
Chronic tension or pain
-
Anxiety, brain fog, or fatigue
-
Trouble sleeping or relaxing
-
Feeling disconnected or emotionally reactive
This state of dysregulation makes it harder for the body to heal, rest, or feel safe. That’s why trauma-informed care must involve the body—not just the mind.
Somatic Release + Nervous System Recalibration
A combine Reiki energy work with gentle, body-based practices to support your natural healing response. My approach includes:
-
Craniosacral-inspired techniques to calm the brain and release tension in the spine
-
Therapeutic touch and fascia-focused massage to support circulation and release holding patterns
-
Weighted blankets and cozy props to ground and signal safety to the nervous system
-
Aromatherapy and calming music to deepen relaxation and sensory healing
-
Reiki to balance the energy field and promote overall regulation
This integrative method helps shift you from a survival state into a rest-and-repair state, supporting the release of stuck energy and promoting physical, emotional, and energetic healing.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, traditional hands-off energy therapy that promotes deep relaxation, stress relief, and energetic balance. Rooted in Japanese healing traditions, Reiki works by supporting your body’s natural ability to restore itself—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
At its core, Reiki is based on the idea that we are more than just our physical bodies—we also have an energetic system, sometimes called the “biofield.” When stress, trauma, or illness disrupts this energy, it can show up as tension, fatigue, emotional overwhelm, or physical symptoms. Reiki helps recalibrate that system by channeling subtle healing energy through the practitioner’s hands to your body. Many clients describe it as feeling like warmth, waves, tingling, or a peaceful stillness.
As a holistic RN and certified Reiki practitioner, I combine Reiki with evidence-informed practices such as nervous system regulation techniques, gentle massage, craniosacral holds, acupressure, and therapeutic touch. These integrative tools help deepen the effects of Reiki and offer support for clients who are healing from burnout, anxiety, grief, or chronic stress.
Whether you’re navigating a life transition, processing trauma, or simply seeking calm, Reiki offers a safe space to reconnect with your inner wisdom and wholeness.
What to Expect During a Reiki Session
Your Reiki session is a peaceful experience designed to meet you exactly where you are—emotionally, physically, and energetically. You’ll remain fully clothed and comfortably supported on a massage table, with optional additions like a weighted blanket, warm compress, essential oils, or calming music to help you settle in.
At the start, we’ll have a brief check-in to discuss your current needs, goals, or any areas you’d like extra attention. From there, I use light, intentional touch (or no touch at all, if you prefer) to gently guide Reiki energy through key points on your body—such as the head, shoulders, heart, abdomen, or feet. You may feel warmth, tingling, emotional release, or simply a deep sense of calm. Some clients fall asleep; others enter a meditative state. Every experience is unique.
As a holistic RN, I often incorporate additional tools to support nervous system regulation and trauma release, such as:
-
Craniosacral holds for grounding and stillness
-
Acupressure and fascia release to soothe stuck energy
-
Aromatherapy to harmonize the senses
-
Somatic and breathwork cues to bring you home to your body
You don’t need to “do” anything—just come as you are. After the session, we’ll take a few moments to reflect, answer questions, and provide aftercare recommendations to help integrate the healing.
This is your time to restore, recalibrate, and reconnect.
What to Expect After Reiki
After a Reiki session, most people feel lighter, calmer, and more centered—like something has gently clicked back into place. Others may experience subtle emotional releases, increased clarity, or even a wave of sleepiness as the nervous system shifts into a deeper state of rest.
Because Reiki supports the body’s natural healing processes, it’s common to notice:
-
A sense of calm, ease, or emotional relief
-
Vivid dreams, increased intuition, or clarity
-
Temporary fatigue, emotions, or physical detox responses
-
Renewed energy or creative inspiration in the days following
To support your integration, I may suggest:
-
Drinking extra water
-
Gentle movement, nature time, or rest
-
Journaling, art, or self-reflection
-
Avoiding overstimulation if possible
Everyone’s experience is different—your body and energy will respond in the way that’s most needed for your healing. Whether it’s subtle or profound, Reiki continues to work long after our session ends.
Who is Reiki For?
Reiki is for anyone seeking balance, clarity, or peace—whether you’re navigating physical symptoms, emotional heaviness, or simply feeling energetically off.
Clients come to me for Reiki when they are:
-
Recovering from stress, burnout, or trauma
-
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained
-
Experiencing grief, heartbreak, or big life transitions
-
Dealing with chronic pain, fatigue, or health conditions
-
Craving quiet, grounded connection in a fast-paced world
-
Working through spiritual shifts or seeking deeper alignment
-
Simply needing a moment to rest and return to themselves
Reiki is a supportive tool for those who are already receiving medical or mental health care and want to add a gentle, holistic layer to their healing journey. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit—Reiki is also a beautiful practice for maintaining wellness, deepening self-awareness, and staying energetically attuned to your life path.
